Update:
The Miami show has ended, and I made it home. It was a great show. Honestly, I can tell you I never thought I'd see these guys live. Also, from the comments made about this tour before it started, I was expecting a smaller crowd, but it was about 3/4 maybe 3/5 full.
Before A Beautiful Day started playing, the house music got really loud as the speakers blasted a few songs from AC/DC beginning with Hells Bells. Then a few Jimi Hendrix songs were played.
I thought they would open up with something different from the Europe tour, but it was the same Reachin' Out and Tie Your Mother Down. I was happy they threw Dragon Attack in there, although half the audience didn't seem as into it as the other half. This band tonight, performed it brilliantly.
Fat Bottom Girls followed, and then finally, with some anticipation after hearing that there was a brand new song being played on this tour, they played it. I think it was called Money Don't Come Easy, but don't quote me on that title, it's just what I thought Paul Rodgers had called it when he announced playing it and it was what was repeated in the chorus sections of the song. It was a good song, not great. It was more Paul Rodgers sounding than Queen sounding, but there were some hints of Queen thrown in there. In fact, I think I might enjoy this song better as a studio version. As a side note, the crowd over all wasn't very into this song.
Then we got the usual songs up until Bad Company played. This was a lot of fun. Not only because it is one of my favorite Bad Company songs, but because Paul Rodgers rose up on an elevator that lifted him up from under the middle of the stage. Not only that, he was playing piano. Behind him, on the giant projector screen, was a montage of Paul Rodgers throughout his career from Free to Bad Company to The Firm to Q+PR. It was great seeing those pictures, especially of him in his younger days.
I thought we would get more of Paul on the Piano. Killer Queen maybe? Seven Seas of Rhye? Sorry, not tonight. After Bad Company, it was the last we saw of Paul on the piano tonight.
The rest of the gig was pretty much similar to what we've seen from the Europe shows. Apart from Dragon Attack and Bad Company, I was surprised to hear the audience singing along so well to Love of My Life and doing the whole raising the hands and clapping to Radio Ga Ga.
Finally, I was hoping for more of a mix up in this set for this tour, but I have a feeling as the nights go on they'll be trying different things. Oh, and for you die-hard fans out there who must know, Roger cut his hair. It's not as long as it was in the Return of the Champions DVD.
As a final side note, I just want to thank Shannon who was kind enough to spare some time to post the set list up for me as I text messaged the songs to her with my mobile phone. You got to love her for that, I know I do. Thanks guys and girls for all your comments. If you plan on going to one of the upcoming U.S. dates, enjoy it...I know I did.
